The correct rear wiring harness depends on what you currently have on your 1999 Ford F-150. If you have a factory 4-flat then you will be able to use the Ford Replacement OEM Tow Package Wiring Harness, 7-Way # 118242. This will plug into the OEM connector on your truck, which it sounds like you have.
If you do not have the factory 4-flat with the tow package connectors you will need to start by adding a 4-way. I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118344. Once installed, you will be able to upgrade to a 7-way using the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7. This kit comes with the adapter, wiring, and everything else you need to add a 7-way to your truck.
I have attached some review and installation videos for your reference.
