Installing Brake Controller in 2000 Chevy C/K Series Pick-Up

Question:

I currently have a 4-way trailer connector installed by the trailer rental place. Id like to add a brake controller and connector to haul a RV. Im not sure if my model and year truck can use a plug-in wiring adapter or if it even has the under-dash brake controller connector. From one of the previous posts with someone who has a 1997 truck you stated that he would have to use the ETBC7 7-Way RV and 4 Way Flat Brake Controller Kit and a good brake controller either P2 #90885 or P3 #90195. What equipment do I need to adapt my 2000 Chevy 2500 C/K Old Body Style not a Silverado?

The 2000 Chevy C/K, a/k/a old body style will not have the plug in under the dash for a brake control wiring adapter. You will need to use the # ETBC7 Brake Controller Installation Kit you referenced.

The install kit includes everything needed- wire, hardware, zip ties, circuit breakers and an adapter to convert your existing 4-pole to a 7-way.

As far as the brake controller goes, you cannot go wrong with either the Prodigy P2 or the P3 you mentioned. Functionally speaking, both controllers are pretty similar. The main difference between the two is that the P3 has what I would call a more user-friendly display. Both controllers feature a diagnostic feature, but while the P2 uses an error code that will need to be looked up in the instructions to determine what is happening, the P3 will actually spell out what the problem is in plain English (as well as Spanish or French, if you would prefer). The color of the display can be changed and its contrast and brightness is adjustable.

I have linked you to an FAQ article that explains how the install kit is used, as well as to an install video showing the install on a early 90s Suburban. The installation procedure on your vehicle would be identical.
