Best 2-Bike Hanging Style Hitch Mount Bike Rack for 2022 Acura RDX
Question:
Im looking for a 2 bike hanging rack for a 2022 Acura RDX and noticed the Yakima Ridgeback 2 and the Kuat Beta 2. Can you provide any info on +/- of each? Both alum and similar wt? This will be on/off the vehicle often for short trips. Rigidity of one vs the other? Advantages of the more expensive Yakima? How about the quality and durability of the saddles, holders, hold down straps for each? Any other racks I should be considering that provide additional advantages? Thanks

Excellent choices! Both bike racks will hold up and perform really well so when it comes down to it I would have to say that the Yakima RidgeBack # Y02457 would be the best for ease of use since the anti-rattle and locking knob are built into each other and the tilting/folding features are all activated by levers whereas the Kuat Beta uses some levers as well as some pins.
Where the Beta edges out the RidgeBack is when you physically need to move and store the rack. It comes in at a mere 12.6 lbs when compared to the 32 lbs of the RidgeBack. The only thing about the Beta (aside from the pins mentioned above) is that you either get the 1-1/4" Shank # B202-114 and then use an Adapter # D101 for a 2" shank or you get the 2" Shank # B202-2.
So RidgeBack for convenience but the Beta for weight.
As far as other racks go I honestly think the Thule Apex XT # TH9024XT is the best option because it comes with all of the conveniences as the RidgeBack but it also has bike and rack locks, an easier hitch pin system, and the price is comparable to the RidgeBack so it edges both out as far as ease of use goes.
Attached are some review videos of each rack so you can see the differences that I'm talking about. Please note that if any of your bikes has a kid's frame or lacks a horizontal top tube then you'll also need an adapter bar # TH982XT to make sure you have enough ground clearance and your bikes sit level.
If you don't already have a trailer hitch then I recommend going with the Curt Hitch # C95CR
