Required Dimensions For The Global Link RV Baggage Door Slam Latch # 295-000015

Question:

The following is a response to a question regarding the mounting opening and door thickness. “ The Global Link RV Baggage Door Slam Latch part # 295-000015 is designed to fit a cutout of 3-1/2inch x 3-1/2inch so if this is what you have it should work just fine. In regards to thickness, it fits a range so as long as it is more than 1-1/2inch you should be fine.” If I’m reading this correctly the door thickness should be more than 1 1/2”. That seems very thick. Should it read “no more than . . .”? The product description seems to indicate the latch has a depth of 1.5” and there are inner mounting plates that allow the latch to mount to differing door thicknesses but it’s not really clear to me. I’m searching for a replacement for what I believe is an older discontinued Nova Latch. I also believe the 295-000015 latch requires a slot in the door that the bolt occupies. I’m including a couple of pics of my existing opening which is basically 3.5x3.5” so it seems that this replacement may work, however I’ve not seen a spec for distance from the opening to door edge. Thanks for any details you can offer!

The internal hardware of the Global Link RV Baggage Door Slam Latch # 295-000015 is approximately 1-1/2" in length so your door would need to match that size to allow the outer latch pieces to sit flush against the door. That being said you can just build up the inside piece with a material like plywood to get to the correct thickness.

As for the distance from the edge of the door, the outer edge of the cover is going to need to be approximately 3/4" away from the edge to allow the plunger to contact the lip of the door compartment and prevent it from opening.

This slam latch also does not come with a backing plate so you would need the Global Link Mounting Plate for Baggage Door Slam Latch # 295-000016 to complete the installation.
