Can Class 1 Hitch on 2021 Toyota Prius Prime Carry 58-lb e-Bike

Question:

Ive got a 58lb e-bike coming and want to get a rack to put on my 2017 Toyota Prius Prime. Most racks are under 50 lbs - so the combined weight will be under 120 lbs. Most of the racks require a class II hitch and the hitches you have are class I. Can I use a 1-1/4 rack with a single bike on a hitch like the CURT or Draw-Tite Class I hitches? Thanks.

As long as the weight of the bike doesn't exceed the capacity of the bike rack and the combined weight of the rack and bike doesn't exceed the tongue weight capacity of the hitch, and the rack you use is compatible with a Class I hitch, you can absolutely carry an e-bike using either the Draw-Tite # 24966 or the Curt # C11473. If I had to choose between the two, I'd choose the US made Curt # C11473.

If you only need to carry 1 bike, the 35 lb RockyMounts Monorail # RKY10007 would be a great choice. The rack can carry one bike with tires up to 5 inches wide weighing up to 60 lbs, as long as the bike doesn't have fenders.

If the bike has fenders, I'd recommend the 35 lb Saris # SA4025F SuperClamp bike rack which has a 60 lb per bike capacity, and is compatible with a Class I hitch. The rack can accommodate bikes with tires up to 4-1/2 inches wide.
