Troubleshooting Trailer Brakes Locking Up When Using Hopkins 7-Way to 6-Way Adapter

Question:

I have a 2016 Toyota Tundra and the trailer brake plug on my truck is a Hopkins 7 blade, My trailer has a 6 round so I went and bought a 47570 adapter and when I plugged in the trailer it locked trailer brakes up immediately and the only way to unlock was to unplug from tundra Can you tell me what I need to do? I didnt know if I needed to take trailer to uhaul and let them put a new Hopkins 7 blade plug on my trailer to fit plug on my truck for it to work Thanks

Since you have the Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow Trailer Connector Adapter - 7-Way to 6-Way, 5-Way or 4-Way # HM47570 this should be an easy fix. The bottom of the adapter has the Quick-Change wiring plug to switch the 6-pole wiring codes. Remove the plug , turn it and replace it. This will switch to a center-pin-hot design from center-pin-brake design, or vice versa.

If for some reason that doesn't work, I would go ahead and add a new 7-way plug to the trailer wiring. You can use a connector like the Pollak Black Plastic, 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector - Trailer End # PK12706.
