Complete Flat Towing Setup For A 1997 Jeep Wrangler
Question:
Hi, we have an RV and we want to flat tow a vehicle behind. I know we need to make sure the towed vehicle can be flat towed. We need a tow bar and tow plate, etc. My question is about brake control. We have a 7-pinI think wire connection to control the brakes on our trailer when we pull it. Can we get a towed vehicle to have some wiring done so its brakes use the RVs trailer brake controller? Or, do you need a brake buddy type thing?

Expert Reply:
The braking used on a trailer with a brake controller is different than the brakes needed when flat towing a vehicle, so you will not be able to use your brake controller, unfortunately.
Instead, I recommend using the Brake Buddy Select 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System # HM39524. This is going to be the easiest system to set up and use.
The remainder of the parts needed is the:
-Base plate
-Tow Bar
-Tow Bar Wiring
-Safety Cables
-High-Low Adapter.
For a base plate, the etrailer Invisible Base Plate Kit # e98946 will work great with your Wrangler and with the Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar # RM-520 paired with the adapter # e98983.
This tow bar is capable of handling a weight capacity of 6,000-lbs, and will work with a 2" x 2" trailer hitch receiver.
Finally, you're going to need safety cables # C80176, wiring # RM-15267, and a high-low adapter like # C59KR.
For the high-low adapter, you're going to want to measure for yourself, to ensure you get what you need. I have included an FAQ detailing how you can do this.
