Yakima OnRamp or Thule EasyFold XT For Fat Tire Electric Bikes
Question:
I have a RadRover and RadRover Step Thru. Which rack would be best for those two fat tire bikes, Thule or Yakima?

Helpful Expert Reply:
Both the Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack - 1-1/4" Hitches # Y96FR or 2" Hitches # Y36FR and the Thule EasyFold XT - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # TH903202 require additional straps for fat tires, so between the two, the better bike rack is the EasyFold XT. The rack and the straps are the following:
- Thule EasyFold XT Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes # TH903202
- Fat Bike Straps for Thule EasyFold XT Bike Rack # TH985101
While both come with an integrated ramp, the EasyFold XT offers a plethora of convenience features which makes it the simplest bike rack on the market to use, even compared to the Onramp. The first major difference is the installation in your hitch; when you insert the EasyFold in your hitch, you tighten the shank with just the twist of a knob and that's it. The OnRamp requires you to use a hitch bolt that you have to tighten with a wrench.
The EasyFold is also easier to get to and from your vehicle, because - true to its name - it completely folds up and has wheels and a handle that let you easily maneuver it; the OnRamp will require you to take the whole rack on and off as-is. Because it folds up, the EasyFold also takes up much less space in storage.
Finally, the EasyFold XT # TH903202 offers security for both the rack and your e-bike due to the integrated locks in the clamps that secure your bikes to the rack and a lock in the knob that secures the rack to your hitch. While the OnRamp does have a cable lock for your bikes, it doesn't come with a hitch lock, that's something you'd have to get separate with the Yakima HitchLock # Y07235.
