Routing the Power Wire for a Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2013 Honda Civic
Question:
My biggest problem is how to run the electrical wire from the trunk to the engine for its own power. The only thing I could find is a rubber plug up were the plastic screw is that holds the tire cover in place, by the back seat. Would you know of any way I can run this wire through my trunk to the engine? I also would like to know do you know how to remove the scuff plate by the trunk latch so I can run the green wire to the right blinker and tie it to the wire harness back to the main unit ? Thank You For Your Co-operation

Routing the power wire to the vehicle battery can sometimes be the most difficult part of installing a powered wiring harness. While we have not had the chance to install a wiring harness on a 2013 Honda Civic, I may have some information that will help.
Once you remove the rear threshold, or scuff plate, you may find a rubber grommet to the left of the spare tire on the inside wall that was covered by the rear threshold. To remove the rear threshold, you will want either a trim panel remover tool or a flat head screw driver. Gently pry upward on the threshold where the threshold meets the rubber seal for the trunk lid. It should be held down with 4 or 5 plastic clips. Be gentle when prying upward because the clips could break.
If you do not find a grommet under the threshold, then another option would be to drill a hole large enough to feed the wire through. Make sure there is nothing on the other side of the hole that could be damaged with the drill. Most local hardware stores will carry general purpose grommets for smaller holes to protect the wire from the metal that you drilled through. I also recommend sealing the hole with silicone to prevent fumes from entering the vehicle.
I have attached an FAQ article that we have on routing the power wire for a trailer wiring harness for you to check out.
