Recommended Wiring and Brake Controller for Towing With 2003 Chevy S-10 ZR2
Question:
I have a 2003 Chevy S-10 ZR2. We have a 15 RiversideRV Retro camper single axle. Im a complete beginner on towing, but not untechnical. There is a 7-pin blade coming from trailer. I noticed a couple of 4-wire connectors at the back of the truck. Im wondering if this is trailer wiring. What is everything that I need to get this going proportional, with a hidden controller if possible? thanks!

The first thing you will want to do is find if you already have a 4-way connection on your 2003 Chevy S-10 ZR2. I have attached a picture below of a 4-way flat connection for your reference. If you do not already have this connection then you will need to start by installing a 4-way.
For the most reliable wiring harness, I recommend the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118359. This will plug into existing wiring so no cutting or splicing is required. Once you have your 4-way installed, or if you already have one, you will need to upgrade to a 7-way.
In order to add a 7-way you need the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7. This kit comes with the adapter, wiring, and everything else you need in order to add a 7-way to your truck. It also retains the 4-way functionality should you need it at some point so you won't have to use an adapter.
For a brake controller, I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR. The main unit for this brake controller installs in an out of sight location, with only the control knob visible in the dash. The knob will allow you to control your braking power and also acts as a manual override. You would also need the # RED69FR for installation.
If you were looking for a brake controller that is 100% hidden, you would need the Curt Echo Under-Dash Trailer Brake Controller # C27JR. This installs behind the dash and is controlled via the app on your phone. This would also require the # C51515 for installation.
I have attached some review and installation videos for your reference.
