What Roof Rack Setup do You Recommend for Transporting My 20-Foot Canoe on My 2007 CR-V?

Question:

I have a 2007 Honda CR-V with fixed placement for mounts. I need a roof rack system so I can carry my OC1 outrigger which is 19lb and 20 feet long. Can you please give me some good options. I can also provide photos if needed . Thank you

For your 2007 Honda CR-V, I recommend the following crossbar setup for your fixed mounting points:

- Thule WingBar Evo Crossbars - Aluminum - Black - 47" Long - # TH711220
- Rapid Podium Feet for Thule Crossbars - Fixed Point # TH460R
- Fit Kit for Thule Podium-Style Roof Rack Feet- 3042 # THKIT3042
- Thule One-Key Locks # TH450400

With this Thule system, you receive the benefit of an extremely aerodynamic system that ultimately leads to a quieter ride and increased fuel efficiency. Also, with a maximum weight capacity of 165 pounds, this roof rack offers the most weight capacity for your vehicle. With the full-length channel, the bars are compatible with many channel-mount accessories. As with all roof racks, I recommend consulting with your owner's manual to make sure that your roof can handle the amount of weight you wish to transport.

Given that your Outrigger canoe is 20 feet long, there will be considerable overhang on your CR-V. For this reason, I also recommend using the Rhino-Rack T-Load Hitch Mounted Load Assist and Support Bar for 2" Hitches - 49" Long # RTL002 in addition to the crossbar system for extra length on the rear end. This also helps increase visibility in the front of the vehicle. To protect the crossbars, I recommend purchasing 2 sets of the Thule SUP and Surfboard Pads for AeroCrossbars - 30" Long # TH846000 to protect all the crossbars. It is important to note that we do not carry pads that come only in a quantity of 1.

If you need a hitch for your CR-V for the T-Load, I recommend using the Draw-Tite - 2" # 75547. Since this hitch installs 15-1/2 inches from the ground on your 2007 CR-V, you will be able to use the T-Load's adjustable height range of 42" - 64" to be perfectly level with the top of your roof. Also, you will not have any bumper clearance issues with using the T-Load with this hitch.

In order to secure your canoe to the crossbars, you also need the etrailer Tie-Down Kit # e36ZR to fasten the canoe to your vehicle.
