Curt TriFlex Trailer Brake Controller Shows dc with Trailer Connected to 2012 Toyota Tundra
Question:
I have a 2012 toyota tundra that I installed a curt triflex controller on today . It powers up but upon connecting the trailer plug to the truck it flashes dc which I believe means disconnected . I also have a 2000 tundra with a impulse controller on that I have pulled the same trailer with numerous times , I connected the trailer to it and the trailer brakes work fine , what could the problem be?

The dc does indeed mean that the controller is not sensing the trailer on the Curt TriFlex brake controller # C24VV. This could be happening if the gain is set too low on the controller. Trying adjusting the power output and make sure the controller is mounted within the range specified in the instructions because not being level or straight can affect it.
The Tundra also has an issue with an inadequate ground for a brake controller at the factory connection point for wiring harness # C51362. You could run a jumper ground from the white wire to a good bare metal surface to see if that helps.
You will also want to make sure that the vehicle and trailer side connectors are clean and free of corrosion. If the 7-Way you have has LED indicators on it (to tell you what circuits are working and not working) that for some reason causes issues with the Curt brake controllers. You would have to disable that feature or replace the 7-Way with one that does not have LED indicators on it.
