Can You Reverse with Reese StraitLine Weight Distribution System Spring Bars Connected

Question:

I have a 1995 Award Classic 30 travel trailer , 4500 lbs. dry weight, 500 lbs. tongue weight. The tow vehicle I used for years was a Suburban, It finally wore out and had to be replaced. I used a pull rite hitch which towed great but everything else about I HATED, the hitching, the backing, and especially the wide swing out I had to make because the pivot point was moved forward under the vehicle and not on the bumper as a regular hitch. I also had to remove the bars in a lot of camp grounds to back in, which I also hated. Now I have purchased a 2008 Tundra to pull my Award with and I am looking for a hitch, I have started my research , reading about the strait line which sounded great until now, when I read that it should be unhooked when backing, reminds me of the pullrite.. What I am after is a hitch with no sway, no push pull on the expressway when a semi passes , but I want easy cornering,and backing without unhitching until I back into the campsite. I want a Reese because of the reputation and quality, safety has to come first. Which hitch do you recommend for my needs?

With a dual-cam sway control system like the Strait-Line Weight Distribution System # RP66084, you will have more freedom in terms of backing up than you would with a friction sway control bar. However, if you are going to be making tight turns and maneuvers while backing up, it is a good idea to disconnect the dual-cam sway control to avoid any potential issues. When picking out a weight distribution system the most important factor to consider is the loaded tongue weight of the setup when you are loaded and ready to go. This also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I would recommend you determine this figure before you purchase a system.
