Thule rack system for 2000 4Runner to carry a rack carrier loaded with two 42 lb kayaks

Question:

I want to install a rack carrier from Norway onto my 2000 4 Runner that has factory tracks. I have been advised that the Thule Rapid Podium with the 3101 fit kit is the best option. The rack weighs 70 lbs. the kayaks weigh 84 lbs for two and the Thule dock Grip Saddles weigh about 20 lbs for Two kayaks. Will this set up work? I do not want to exceed the dynamic load rating that appears to be 50 Kg for the 3101 fit kit. Thanks

The Thule Podium Feet # TH460R and Fit Kit # THKIT3101 are designed to fit the OEM tracks on your 2000 Toyota 4Runner. If you're needing the crossbars then the 43" WingBar Evo # TH711120 is what I recommend checking out. I do need to caution you though as the WingBar Evo has a strength rating of 220 lbs but Thule says their roof rack system on your setup has a weight rating of 110 lbs so if you were to swap out the crossbars for a different type of carrier you'll definitely be overloading what the factory tracks can handle.

If you were to use the Inno Square Bar roof rack with the clamps then you'll have a 165 lb weight rating but this has a different leg kit so you wouldn't be able to utilize the Norway rack. Here are the parts you need from Inno:

50" Square Crossbars - # INB127
Feet - # INSUT
Fit Kit - # INK143

This kit uses clamps that secure in the door jambs of your 4Runner which is why the weight rating is different. This also cuts out that 70 lbs for your other carrier so you'll definitely be able to use the Thule DockGrip # TH895 for your kayaks.
