Best 5th Wheel Hitch for Towing New 5th Wheel Trailer with New Truck

Question:

Hello, I don’t have a truck yet but I’m curious what the best of the best fifth wheel hitch is for my new camper that I haven’t picked up yet. If money were no object. It’s a grand design reflection 278BH

Thanks for the question! The best setup kind of depends on what equipment you have on your truck and trailer but let's say for the sake of argument that you have a Ford Super Duty with the puck package and your Grand Design has a standard pin box.

For a long bed Super Duty it's the 25K B&W Companion # BWRVK3305 hands down because of the performance and ease of use. You can quickly disconnect the head and essentially divide the weight in half when you need to move the hitch around.

For a short bed Super Duty my top pick is the 21K Demco Hijacker Autoslide # DM8550038 because it gives you the clearance you need to avoid hitting your truck but also keeps you in the cab when it comes time to make tight turns. If you go with a manual slider then there are multiple steps and you have to get in and out of your truck a few times to make this maneuver.

If your Grand Design were to have fancy pin box that rotates at the turret then you can use the Companion I mentioned above for either bed size as the pivoting pin box will give you the clearance you need with the short bed.

Attached are review videos of both hitches on newer Super Duty pickups for you to check out. If you have a different truck setup just let me know and I'll be happy to make any changes that might need to be made.
