Do Transmission Coolers Install the Same Way on Every Vehicle
Question:
is the instruction universal or for specific vehicle.

Expert Reply:
Transmission cooler installations are not vehicle specific because transmission coolers themselves are not vehicle specific so they general way they install will be the same. What is different is where you may need to mount the cooler, whether or not you will have to cut and flare lines, and what you might need to move out of the way to install the cooler in the most efficient place. All of these things are different from vehicle to vehicle.
The path of the transmission fluid should be as follows: hot fluid leaves the transmission and goes to the factory cooler, usually located inside the radiator but it could be a stand alone unit as well. Then it exits the factory cooler and goes into the supplemental cooler. Then it leaves the supplemental cooler and goes back to the transmission.
You can use our FAQ article which I have linked, and our install videos as a guide to help you perform the installation. For a 1999 Ford Super Duty I do recommend adding hose fitting # D13024 if you have the 4.6 liter motor or # D13025 if you have any other motor size. This will make installation easier because by using the fittings you would not have to cut and flare lines. I have linked a video showing a typical installation of cooler # D13504 for you.
