Pivot Arm position for B&W Companion BWRVK3600

Question:

Ill be using this hitch in a 2015 Ram 3500 long bed, towing a 43foot RV. I see that the pivot arms on the hitch can be positioned for height, and for the king pin to run forward, centered, or behind the truck axle. Is there any reason I would not want the king pin centered over the truck axle provided there is adequate cab/RV corner clearance ? Please explain why, other than to provide clearance between truck cab and nose corner of the RV, I would not want the king pin directly over the truck axle.

I would be happy to explain that for you. The reason some hitches like sliders have the option to move away from the axle is for clearance when parking or turning into tight spaces. When you haul a 5th wheel you absolutely want it directly over your rear axle. The six inches of adjustment built into the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch item # BWRVK3600 you referenced is for clearance and will not affect your ability to haul your 43' RV with your 2015 Ram 3500 Long Bed. I have linked a couple of installation videos so you can see the adjustment process.

The B&W Companion weighs over 200 lbs. If that's not something you're interested in moving by yourself and don't want to have to rely on someone to help you then I recommend purchasing the B&W 5th Wheel Lifting Device for Companion and Patriot Hitches item # BWRVXA3130. This heavy duty steel tool lets you lift your B&W 5th-wheel hitch from your truck bed with a hoist. The 5th-Wheel jaws clamp around the device for a secure grip.

Don't forget your lube plate. The Lube Plate for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches - 10" Diameter item # RP83002 will prevent scratches on your fifth-wheel's skid plate and ease trailer hookup.
