Solution to 3,500 lb Axle Hitting Frame of Trailer

Question:

Thank you for the great details. Do other options exist? Does the equalizer impact height at all? My only concern is an axle flip would raise it too much.

Thanks for those photos they were helpful, and the equalizer looks fine; so if the springs are not sagging excessively, what I recommend is adding an over/under kit, or what is commonly called "flipping the axle". What this does is moves your trailer's leaf springs to the top of your axle lifting your trailer approximately the same amount as your axle's diameter (2-3/8") plus the height of the leaf spring pack. For your 3,500 lb axles, you would need two of the following kits:

- Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-384-00

The # K71-384-00 will ensure that the axle won't come anywhere near the frame, as it will too high above it, so even on bumper roads the axle and frame won't come into contact.

Happy to try and help, and there are other options for you. The equalizer isn't going to have an impact on the height, but if you are concerned about the height increase with an axle flip, what you can do is add helper springs from SumoSprings: - SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs w/ Line Relocation Bracket - Single Axle - 3K to 5K - Underslung # TSS-106-40 You would need two of the # TSS-106-40 for your tandem axle trailer, and what these do is sit on the leaf spring and cushion the frame. This would be the next best option for you after flipping the axle and won't raise the trailer height.
