Recommended Transmission Cooler For 1/2 Inch Transmission Lines

Question:

I am building a pick up truck with Cummins diesel with an automatic transmission and wondered if you have a standalone transmission cooler would work for it? It is a Dodge 46 Rh transmission going in a four-wheel-drive Jeep J10. The trans lines are 1/2” ID.The existing radiator does have built-in cooler for the transmission, and I could plumb in along with an auxiliary from you if I have to. Thank you

Sure thing; for a cooler, I recommend is the Derale Series 9000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit with NPT Inlets - Class IV - Extra Efficient # D13613.

This is a plate-and-fin cooler, which means it uses smaller plates that cover more area than other coolers in order to agitate transmission fluid. Because you cannot over-cool fluids, the basic rule of thumb for transmission coolers is that size matters so the large 11" wide x 8-7/8" tall x 1-1/4" deep Series 9000 is going to give you the best possible cooling efficiency.

The only thing you'll need, since you have 1/2 inch lines, is a fitting kit, the Derale Transmission Line Compression Fitting Kit - 1/2" Line to 1/2" NPT Barb # D13033.

I have added links below to video reviews for you to check out as well of the Derale Series 9000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit with NPT Inlets - Class IV - Extra Efficient # D13613.
