Carrying Capacity and Weight Capacity of Swagman Trailhead 4-Bike Rack for 2" Hitches

Question:

The Swagman carrier on your web page Swagman Trailhead 4-Bike Rack for 2inch Hitches - Fixed Base is a 4 bike rack that limits each bike to 35 pounds but 4 35 exceeds the weight limit posted for the rack which actually seems to make the rack a 2 bike rack..

You are correct, 4 bikes at 35 lbs would exceed the overall capacity of the Swagman Trailhead 4-Bike Rack for 2" Hitches - Fixed Base # S63381. The overall weight capacity of the rack is 100 lbs. It is capable of holding four bikes, just not four 35 lbs bikes. The 35 lb limitation is for each mounting point for a bike on the carrier.

So, you could carry four 25 lb bikes without any issues. You could also carry two 35 lb bikes and a 30 lb bike. Any combination works as long as you do not exceed 35 lbs per bike or 100 lbs overall. Since the average weight of a bicycle is 18 lbs it is unlikely that you will have an issue carrying 4 bikes with the bike rack.
