Comparing Installation of Discontinued Curt 13437 to Curt 13494 for 2022 Subaru Outback
Question:
Curt CU89fR I was wondering if this hitch is still being made? A very easy install on the 2021 Outback, but looks like a different model now and a harder install.

The Curt CU89FR (13437) has been discontinued and replaced with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C67JR (13494). There was a slight design change but the installation process is nearly the same. You are right though, it will be more difficult and take some additional time.
From what I could find, the major difference is that the # C67JR has you remove the bumper cover no matter what and also sit the bumper beam to the side. The old 13437 installation says that the bumper beam will be held up by vehicle studs on each side, and the bumper cover was only removed for certain models.
If you want a hitch that follows the same installation process as the 13437 I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e25TR. This also has the same design as the Curt 13437 hitch. The only difference between the two is the matte black powder coat finish on the # e25TR. I actually prefer this look and it will do a better job hiding dirt and scratches when compared to a glossy finish.
I have attached an installation video from the old 13437, along with the written instructions, so you can see what the process is like for the etrailer hitch.
