Should etrailer 24x60 etrailer Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches Sit Level With Ground
Question:
The instructions are pretty weak for the folding cargo hitch carrier. How tight am I supposed to tighten the bolt that connects the main hitch bar to the folding mechanism? There is only one bolt and I want to tighten it as much as possible, but if I do it will no longer fold since it is pivoting around this point. The instructions say to fully tighten. I just bought this product. When I install the folding hitch cargo carrier, it tilts to one side when empty. I have not loaded it up yet. When I lift it up a little, it makes it flatter and there is obvious play in the vertical direction at the hitch. Do you have any known fixes for this? I do not have the ability to take pics right now. I am thinking of taking it apart and trying to reinstall all the bolts. I was hoping this would have just worked properly out of the box.

The bolts on the 24x60 etrailer Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches # e98874 just need to be tightened until they are secure. When it comes to that pivot pin you need to tighten it so there is a little resistance when tilting/folding the carrier, but it does need to still move like you mentioned.
When the carrier is put together and installed correct so that the anti-rattle pin is tight enough that you can't move the shank, the carrier shouldn't have any significant up and down movement. This is a tilting/folding carrier so there will be some slight movement due to the small tolerances between the hitch pins, but once you have a load in place it will take care of that.
Your carrier should also be level with the ground and not leaning to one side with the anti-rattle bolt in place. Without it in place it's common for cargo carriers to lean, but not with the anti-rattle installed. If you think you may need to revisit the installation I do recommend doing so and then reaching out to us again if this still doesn't fix your issue.
