Converting Trailer To Wider Axle For Using Jeep 5 on 5 Lug Wheels

Question:

Hello, unfort the trailer I received has the wrong axle for the wheel/tires in my build. Came with a 71inch hub-hub, and based on my backspacing, I need a 76. So, looking for a suggestion on a 3500#, 76inch hub to hub, and 5x5 hubs to fit my jeep wheels. Would love atop mount spring vs bottom. Can you suggest a decent setup? The trailer is no more than 1250# full, so a 2000# would be fine

I have a couple recommendations as we do not have an axle that meets your needs.

First is you can replace your axle with the Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension # ASR35HDS02. With this it will put your hub face 8" away from your frame and the spindle center will be 7-5/16" above the bottom of the frame. Since it sounds like you are building an off road trailer it is best to stick with the 3,500lb capacity components as they are stronger for the abuse they will get off road. Since this does not include a hub you will need the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # 84550BX to get the 5 on 5" lug pattern you are looking for.

The other option is to use your current axle with the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # 84550BX. You would need to add a 2-1/2" wheel spacer to each side to get the axle to the width you are looking for for your Jeep 5 on 5" Wheels. If your current axle has the mounts for mounting on top of the leaf springs a Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-384-00 will allow you to mount the axle under the leaf springs.
