Troubleshooting Wiring Connection Colors on 1997 Apache Horse Trailer

i have a1997 apache two horse trailer the wires on the trailer cable are yellow-white-black-green-red-brown all the new receptors i buy do not have the same color codes stamped on the female side of the plug can you tell me if i connect the color wire to the color on the plug where does the odd color wire go-the plug is stamped with the following colors-brown-black-green-red-white-blue

When it comes to wiring, colors are not universal and don't always match up. Since you are describing six wires it sounds like you have a 6-way connection. In which case the typical colors are:

Green: Right turn/brake light
Yellow: Left turn/brake light
Brown: Tail/running lights
White: Ground wire
Blue: Brake controller output
Red or Black: Battery hot lead

This doesn't exactly fit with either set of wires you are describing. I recommend using a circuit tester like the # PTW80157 to find which wire is tied to which function on your vehicle connection. On the trailer side you would need to trace the wires if you are not sure which is which to ensure they match up correctly.
