Recommended 7-Way Wiring and Brake Controller for 2009 Mercedes-Benz GL450
Question:
I have a 2009 Mercedes Benz GL450. My Vehicle has a 4-Pin Trailer Plug, but Trailer has 7-Pin Trailer Plug. I need to also install brake controller. Can you assist me on all the parts I need to make this work? Also, is there an installer in my area zip code 56444 that can install for me?

In order to add a 7-way to your 2009 Mercedes Benz GL450 you have two options depending on whether or not you have the factory tow package. If you do have the factory tow package, you can use the Hopkins Endurance Quick-Install 7-Way Trailer Connector # HM42190. This 7-way connector will plug directly into your factory wiring harness.
If you do not have the factory tow package, you will need the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7. This kit comes with the adapter, wiring, and everything else you need to upgrade your existing 4-way to a 7-way. The adapter also maintains the 4-way connection should you need it for a different trailer.
For a brake controller, I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR. The main unit for this controller mounts out of sight with only the control knob visible in your vehicle. This provides a nice clean look and you won't have a brake controller in the way. The knob controls the braking power and also acts as an emergency override. It uses LED lights for simple diagnostics. You will also need the Universal Wiring Harness # RED69FR to complete the installation.
I have attached some review and installation videos for your reference. For a local installer you can use our "Locate installers near me" link located on any product page below the images and videos. From there you can enter your zip code or use your current location to find nearby installers.
