Need Replacements for Kaper KII LED Tail Lights Installed in Tailgate

Question:

No blinkers on tailings . The continuity light shows I have power at the light. I need replacements for this same size light. The lights are recessed in the tailgate

In cases when tail lights are installed within a tailgate it may sometimes be that the hinge mechanism in the tailgate does not provide a good enough electrical ground connection; this can cause some lighting functions to not operate properly. If this is the case then routing a separate jumper ground wire from the light fixture ground wire to the vehicle/trailer frame can provide a better ground which will allow more current to pass.

It is also possible that the wiring is carrying the blinking turn signal but that the connector pins are corroded. I suggest you use an electrical contact cleaner on all connector pins (and after that an application of dielectric grease such as #11755 to protect those clean connections). This may correct the problem.

The lights that you have referenced, the water-proof Optronics # STL70RB, are LED oval trailer lights that measure 6-1/2 x 2-1/4 x 1-1/8 inches deep. These mount using a rubber grommet, # A70GB, and if desired a steel bracket, part # BK70BB.

You will also need a 3-wire pigtail # A45PB. This pigtail includes a ring terminal on the white ground wire.

I have linked an article concerning trailer wiring that includes a section on troubleshooting.
