Opening Demco Hitch Jaws Wide Enough To More Easily Insert The Demco Lifting Bracket

How do I get my demco hitch jaws to open fully in the armed position?

The jaws of a Demco Hijacker Autoslide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # DM8550034 do not make it easy to install the Demco 5th Wheel Lifting Bracket # DM6100. You can see from the video that I have linked below even our installer has a hard time getting the jaws open enough to insert the bracket. He does reach over and is able to get the jaws to open wider by pushing out on the handle. This may be easier with a second set of hands depending on your situation.
