Suspension Enhancement for 5th Towing Using 2022 Ram 1500 with 6-1/2 Bed

Question:

2022 Ram 150 fifth wheel tongue weight 1350. Do you think I should give the heavy duty coil springs or one of the helpers like sumo or timbren? This is going to come very close to maxing out my payload capacity so I need to make sure I did the most supportive thing possible.

For your situation of using a 2022 Ram 1500 with 6-1/2' bed to haul a 5th wheel RV, enhancing the suspension is a good call. My recommendation is to use the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Air Helper Springs with Internal Jounce Bumpers, # AL88375. The air springs and jounce springs in this system work together to give you the best ride whether your truck is loaded or unloaded, so you get the adjustable load support of air springs and the comfort and reliability of jounce springs. The jounces also work as a fail-safe if air springs lose pressure. They are adjustable in air pressure from 5 psi to 100 psi so this provides support as needed when the RV is connected, but provides a closer to factory ride when using the Ram as a daily driver without the load. This is a no-drill, bolt-on installation with all needed mounting brackets and hardware included.

These can be manually inflated but some that install this type of suspension enhancement prefer to add an onboard compressor system such as the Air Lift Load Controller Compressor System for Air Helper Springs- Heavy Duty - Dual Path, # AL25856. There are several air compressor options, I prefer this one because it automatically kicks in if it senses your air spring pressure is too low and lets you monitor and adjust 2 air springs independently.

I will point out that we do have the SuperCoils Custom Suspension Coils, # SSC-50 (2,058-lb Coil Capacity) and # SSC-51 (2,480-lb Capacity) available and these are great options too. These are used to replace factory installed coil springs to improve handling when towing trailers or hauling heavy loads such as your 5th wheel RV. The benefit here is install and done, no adjustment needed. The draw back is the same, no adjustment allowed. This is why I prefer the Air Lift LoadLifter option of, # AL88375. The SuperCoils are the way to go if always under a load. For example, you have a heavier cargo body installed instead of the typical truck bed, upgrade the springs. Or, you only use the truck to haul a trailer, install the upgraded springs and forget about it. But if you use the truck for hauling the 5th wheel and as a daily driver both, go with the Air Lift LoadLifter option of, # AL88375. Adding the compressor, # AL25856 all comes down to convenience.
