Recommended Hitch Adapter for Cargo Carrier and Bike Rack on 2014 Chevy Traverse

Question:

I’m looking for a solution to be able to carry both a bike rack with bikes on it and a cargo rack. The cargo rack would be empty while carrying bikes. The challenge is that the cargo on the cargo rack, on occasions that it is used, will be very heavy- like 700+ pounds heavy. Note, the bikes won’t be carried when the rack is in use. With a class III hitch, I can support up to 750 pounds of tongue weight, but I can’t find any kind of dual hitch adapter that supports the high weight. Am I just missing it? Or is there not something that exists for what I want? Thanks

Dual hitch adapters typically reduce your tongue weight capacity by 50% when used. Others like the # RM-077-2 are intended for flat towing. In order to be able to handle your bike rack and cargo carrier you need stacked receivers like the Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount w/ Stacked Receivers # 325-GH-314.

The Gen-Y will not reduce your tongue weight capacity while allowing you to carry the bike rack and cargo carrier at the same time. This has a tongue weight capacity of 1,500 lbs. Make sure you do not exceed the tongue weight capacity of your hitch or vehicle, whichever is lower.

I have attached a link to all of the Gen-Y stacked receivers you can check out if you need a different rise/drop. Keep in mind, some of them do not have a high enough tongue weight capacity so you will need to be sure it can handle the weight you plan on adding.
