How To Find Correct Replacement Electric Brakes for Old Trailer with Dexter Axles
Question:
I have an old trailer with two axels. made Dexter axel by Elkhart Indiana 5M2C SN 0055721 can you recommend what electric brake system I need for this trailer?

Expert Reply:
If you can crawl under the trailer and read the axle tag there should be some sort of axle rating which we can then use to determine the correct braking assemblies or you can measure the inside of the drum. Unfortunately, Dexter has limited resources on looking up older trailers parts. The most common braking assemblies are for 3,500 lb axles, 2-3/8" diameter with 10" x 2-1/4" such as the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # 23-26-27. For compatible drums, the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # 84546UC3.
I have attached our full list of options below you can filter by capacity and size.
