Can Yakima Rooftop Tents Be Used On Flushed Mounted Rails On A 2019 Toyota RAV4

Question:

I am researching if there is a problem with putting on a roof top tent on a third party rack system that is placed on a Toyota Rav 4 with flush mount rails on the roof. I was reading the Yakima webpage where this type of mount system is not approved for their roof top tent product. Maybe I am misunderstanding them.

Yakima has stated the following: "At Yakima, customer safety is our number one priority. While we highly respect all the players in the game, we cannot certify their roof racks. Please contact the roof rack manufacturer for their recommendation on carrying rooftop tents." Yakima isn't going to test their rooftop tents on other branded roof racks to confirm that they are a safe combination.

Because there will be a lot of weight on the rack with the tent and the people staying in the tent Yakima lists best practices to ensure the safety of you and your equipment. For example they list that your crossbars need to be supported in the middle or the sides and to not use factory crossbars as they are too flexible and could bend down and break or dent the roof of your vehicle.

They say it's possible but caution the consumer to speak with the manufacturer of the roof rack and ensure that it is capable of handling the weight of the tent with people inside without bending or breaking. For example, if you were planning on using the Yakima SkyRise HD Tent for Roof Rack Crossbars # Y07436 you would want to contact the manufacturer of your roof rack with the SkyRise information to ensure that they can certify that the rack can support the tent.
