Are Spacers Needed For Rhino-Rack Vortex Crossbar System for Retrax XR Tonneau Covers

Question:

I saw a review that suggested spacers are needed under the feet of the “Rhino-Rack Vortex Crossbar System for Retrax XR Series Tonneau Covers” in order for the Retrax latch/handle to clear the bars when opening the cover. What part number is this? And is it really needed? What height above the retrax cover will the bars be? This is for a Ford F-150 2016 short bed with a retrax Xr cover. Thanks!!

I did see the review saying they used spacers, though that is the only time we have ever come across this, so I wouldn't say yes, spacers are going to be needed to use the Rhino-Rack system, which is the following part number:

- Rhino-Rack Vortex Crossbar System for Retrax XR Series and Mountain Top EVO-M Tonneau Covers - 71" Long # RRVA180B-RRRLT600

This system will be approximately 4-1/4" to the top of the crossbar, so if you like you can add height with spacers, and can use any of the following:

- Roof Rack Leg Spacer Blocks for Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars - 10 mm (about 3/8") # RRQMVA10

- Roof Rack Leg Spacer Blocks for Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars - 15 mm (about 9/16") # RRQMVA15

- Roof Rack Leg Spacer Blocks for Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars - 20 mm (about 3/4") # RRQMVA20
