What Hatch Access will I Have with the Yakima SkyBox 21 Installed on My 2012 Subaru Outback?

I saw the full clearance for a Yakima 21 is 57. When I measure to check the dimensions the distance on the Outbacks OEM rails is 51. As long as I can access the back, I dont mind if the hatch and the box touch, but want to make sure I can get somewhat regular access to the back area. Please let me know!

I have an answer for you. If you measured 51 inches from the center of the front crossbar to the line where the roof and hatch meet, there is no way to confirm just how much space you will have to access the hatch. However, we can confirm that will be considerably limited due to the 6 additional inches of overhang of the Yakima SkyBox 21 # Y07337 on your 2012 Subaru Outback.

With that being said, the safest route is the Yakima SkyBox NX 16 Roof Cargo Box - 16 cu ft # Y95AV. The SkyBox NX 16 only requires at least 47 inches from the center of the front crossbar to the line where the roof and hatch meet. Not only will there be no contact, but you will also be able to fully open the rear hatch in full range.
