Recommended 13" Tires With Higher Speed Rating For Pop-Up Camper
Question:
Considering changing from 12” to 13”+ tires on pop up. 5 on 4 1/2 spacing. High speed long distant trip planned. High heat on southern granite asphalt too. All 12” tires limited to low speeds need 75+. Camper only 1500lbs max of 2000. Need tire for run speed, mileage, heat. What can I use?

We have several options for you, please note the linked selections below. My recommendation for a radial tire since radial tires run cooler and track better than bias ply tires and from your statement that appears to be an area of focus. I suggest the 13" tire with a load range of D and an M speed rating (81 mph), the Kenda Karrier, # AM10208. This ST185/80R13 radial special trailer tire has a ply rating of 8 and a 1,710-lb maximum load at 65 psi. It is constructed of double steel belts and full nylon plies fitting a 13" wheel, and is designed for highway use.
If you do prefer a bias trailer tire, I suggest the Loadstar, # AM1ST79. This too is a 13" tire with a load range of D and an M speed rating (81 mph). It has a flatter tread design that offers improved stability and handling. Tire size is ST185/80D13 with a 1,710-lb maximum load rating at 65 psi.
Please ensure that your particular camper can accept the increased tire size and safely be towed higher speeds. Happy Camping!
