Replacement Brake Controller for a 2009 Toyota Land Cruiser
Question:
Hi, I have an 09 prado with the guardian iq model and for years it has gone without an issue. This week I have noticed the tail lights on the vehicle have been staying on no trailer connected they would stay on for hours and hours and it had me baffled until I disconnected the brake controller and all has been good since. All bar the fact I dont have trailer brakes can I just reset the unit or does it need replacing?

It sounds like your brake controller is malfunctioning. Since this is a new problem and you have been using this brake controller on your 2009 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado for years I recommend that you replace it with the the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller item # 90195.
The P3 is going to be a solid upgrade from your current controller. Like your Guardian IQ, this is a proportional brake controller that works with trailers having up to 4 axles. The Prodigy P3 has 5 Storable settings that allow you to customize the controller for multiple trailers, varying loads or different drivers. The 3 boost levels setting lets you adjust initial braking power and aggressiveness.
I have linked a troubleshooting FAQ and an installation video.
