Class 3 Hitch for 2018 Honda CR-V

Question:

Hello, Im trying to decide between a class 3 and class 4 hitch for my 2018 Honda CR-V EX. A brief search on your website seems to indicate that it may not be possible to install a class 4 hitch at all on my vehicle. I wanted to ask if that is indeed the case and why class 4 hitches dont show up for my vehicle. It does say that class 4 hitches go on Full-size pickups and SUVs but maybe Honda CR-Vs dont fall in that category?. So Im a bit confused and would like to understand the reasoning behind this. Also, what kinds of vehicles would support a class 4 hitch? Ford F-150s perhaps?

Your 2018 Honda CR-V does not have anywhere close to the needed towing capacity to require a Class IV hitch. The 2018 Honda CR-V will have a max towing capacity of about 1,500 to maybe 2,000 lbs. While it is not uncommon for a hitch to have rating that exceeds the limitations of the vehicle, the vehicle rating will take precedent on what your max capability is. I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver, # e98848. This is a custom fit Class III, with a 2"x2" receiver opening that is rated at a full 525 lbs. tongue weight and protected with a matte black finish for added durability. This is a bolt-on installation, no welding required, and the complete hardware kit and installation instructions are included. Install time is estimated to be only an hour with no drilling required. We do have a product review and installation video created, I've attached the link for you.

Please note the maximum tow ratings in your vehicle specific owners manual and be sure to not exceed the OEM's recommendations. The above recommended hitch will most likely have a higher rating than your 2018 Honda and that is okay, this ensures the product exceeds your needs and will provide safe and durable performance.

I recommend the etrailer # 989900 Ball Mount Kit for 2" Hitches to go along with your new hitch and the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, # 118741. This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area, behind the driver's-side interior trim panel.
