Does Demco Base Plate Need Lock Kit to Attach to Blue Ox Tow Bar

Question:

1. I have a Blue Ox Tow Bar and wish to tow a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee JGC Limited. I can lock my tow bar to my motor home, and to the standard Blue Ox base plate on my old toad 96 Ford Contour, but I like the idea of getting a base plate with removable arms for my new 2021 JGC, if the base plates removable arms can be locked to the new base plate. Are the removable arms of your e98950 base plate, lockable while connected, to prevent someone from simply unhooking the tow bar from the base plate and stealing the toad? 2. One of your question replies, regarding the need for the Mopar Flat-Tow Wiring Harness for a 2020 Jeep JGC, said that Mopar Flat-Tow Wiring Harnesses are no longer required on newer Jeeps such as that 2020 JGC. The owners manual for my 2021 JGC says, A flat-tow electric power steering enable kit is available for increased flat tow performance, contact an authorized dealer for further details.inch My local Jeep dealer said that the steering enable kit for my JGC was on engineering hold for review. Do you have any updated information on that issue? 3. That same reply also said that a battery maintainer was no longer necessary for an auxiliary braking system for the late model JGC. If a battery maintainer is not used, wont the normal use of the auxiliary braking system during extended towing, run down the Jeeps battery, since it would be the source of power, without a battery maintainer? 4. You offer a number of flat tow wiring kits which include diodes and splice connectors. Do you offer a flat tow wiring kit for a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited that is plug and play, and does not require any splice connectors?

The etrailer base plate kit part # e98950 is a confirmed fit for your 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee and can be used with Blue Ox tow bars like you have. While the removable arms aren't lockable if you were to use a lock kit like the # BX88101 which locks the tow bar to the hitch and the removable arms to the tow bar it would be effectively locked as it would be basically impossible to turn the removable arms with it connected to the tow bar so that it would release.

As far as the steering harness is concerned only a Jeep dealer can really help you with that. Last we heard the harnesses weren't needed anymore so if they changed that it would be up to them to clarify on that as they are authority.

For lighting you can use the diode kit, # RM-15267, and not have to worry about cutting into the taillight housing. This will splice into your taillight wiring to allow your tow vehicle to control the taillight assemblies of the towed vehicle. This comes with a round 6-way connector that you will install on the front of your towed vehicle and enough coiled wire to go from there to the RV.

If you were using a supplemental braking system that was going to draw battery from the battery a charge kit like the # RM-156-25 would be a great choice regardless if Roadmaster says it wasn't needed any longer.
