Recommended Flat Towing Equipment For A 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK

Question:

I have a new-to-me 2018 Jeep Wrangler jk. I would like to use the Roadmaster tow bar # RM-501, and Safety cables # RM-643. What else do I need? What base plates? what lights? I appreciate your advice. Happy New Year!

To use the Roadmaster StowMaster Tow Bar # RM-501 to flat tow your 2018 Jeep JK Wrangler you'll need to use a Roadmaster crossbar-style base plate like the # RM-521448-4 to connect to. This base plate is only compatible with a standard factory bumper so if you have a different style bumper let me know and I can find the compatible fit.

The RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables - 6,000lbs # RM-643 are a great choice for safety cables, and are my most recommended choice for vehicle's under 6K.

You'll need a tow bar wiring kit to send your motorhome's braking and turn signals to your Jeep as well. For this we have two options, one being a magnetic light like the Peterson Magnetic Tow Lights # PE26UR, and the other being a splice in diode kit like the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 4-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15247. This diode kit might seem intimidating to install but it's really easy to install and will save you the hassle of running the wires for the magnetic lights every time you need to tow.

Finally, you'll need a breaking system, I recommend the Brake Buddy Classic 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System # HM39494. You'll get reliable braking with this lightweight, portable system. The actuator unit applies your Jeep's brakes after receiving the signal via the internal inertia sensor. The braking power settings let you adjust the brake intensity based on your Jeep's weight. A charge line kit comes included with this system to keep your Jeep's battery charged while you tow.

You may also require a high/low adapter to keep your tow bar level between the motorhome and Jeep. This does require some measuring on your part so I've attached one of our help articles on ball mounts to walk you through determining the correct rise/drop needed for your application.

I've also attached some videos below that will help you with the installation of all of these parts.
