The Hopkins wiring harness # HM48895 is a universal type of harness but it is not one that is recommended for a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. I have included a link to all of the wiring harnesses that are recommended for your vehicle. If your vehicle did not come with the factory 7-Way wiring harness then I recommend wiring harness # 118394. This is a plug and play style harness that connects in line with the vehicle tail light wiring. I have linked a video showing how it installs.
With this type of harness there is no cutting or splicing into the vehicle wiring.
