I'd be happy to make some recommendations for you.

Let's begin with the hitch. I'd recommend the Curt # C99FR Class III hitch which is a fit for all models of the 2022 Toyota Highlander. If your spare tire is mounted on a wheel larger than 18 inches, you won't be able to stow the spare tire under the vehicle once the hitch is installed. You'll need to go with a spare mounted on an 18 inch wheel, and use it for emergencies only. You'll also need a ball mount like # C45010, a pin and clip # PC3, and # 19260 for a 1-7/8 inch or # 63845 for a 2 inch trailer ball.

You'll also need a 7-way trailer connector. You'll begin with a functional 4 pole connector to access the lighting circuits for the trailer. If you don't already have a 4 pole, you can install one using part # TK99FR. With a 4 pole in place, you'll use our brake controller installation kit, part # ETBC7 to convert the 4 pole to a 7-way.

For a brake controller, I'd recommend a remote mount controller like the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty, part # RED24FR. You'll also need the # RED69FR wiring pigtail as well. The controller itself mounts under the dash where it's out of sight and out of the way. The trailer brakes are adjusted using the control knob which can be mounted within reach of the driver. An unused switch knockout in the dash or center console is a great spot to mount the knob.

I've linked to install videos that you might find helpful.
