Using a Vertical 100 Lb. LP Tank On Its Side
Question:
Good Day. I hope I ask this so you understand me, I’m new RV/5th wheel world! For the winter I am adding a 100 lb propane tank. Will the tank empty if I have it laying down? Or do I have to have it standing upright? Thanks for any insight you can give!

Expert Reply:
A tank that is designed to be used in the vertical position should be used in the vertical position. LP tanks are used by drawing of the gas not the liquid. If you change orientation from design of purpose this is being interrupted and possibly introducing an unsafe situation. I strongly recommend against doing this.
