Will a Curt R5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Fit in a 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 with 5-1/2 Foot Bed

I currently have a 2010 Ram 1500 quad cab with the 6`4inch box. I am looking at a 2013 Ram 1500 with the 5`7inch box. Will the hitch work for the shorter box?

You can use the Curt slider 5th wheel trailer hitch # C16516 in a 2013 Dodge Ram with the 5-1/2 foot bed. However, you will have to keep in locked in the tow position and then use a Sidewinder on the trailer to provide 22 inches of additional extension in order to make tight turns.

In order to determine if there is a Sidewinder that will fit, you will need to look at the pin box manufacturer and model number on the pin box itself. Then you can look up the pin box information in our Sidewinder FAQ article that I have linked for you.

A slider hitch does not offer enough travel to make tight turns with a bed shorter than 6 feet and the tail gate would also have to be removed.

In order to install the hitch in your new truck you would need installation kit # RP30035-386.
