Question:

I have a 2012 hyundai santa fe sport. It has wiring harness plugins behind drivers side rear wheel well,1-4pin,1-2pin.I assume the 4pin is for the lights, not sure about 2pin or where it goes to.Do you have wiring harness from these plugs to 7pin connector? If 2pin is not for controller,do i need to run that power wire 40ampwire size?,back to boat trailer. If 2pin is for controller and if it under dash do you have wiring harness to controller? I am trailering a 17 ft. ski boat.dealer not much help. Thanks for your help

In order to install a brake controller on a 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe you will need to hardwire it in. There are 3 things you will need: a 4-Way wiring harness, a # ETBC7, and a brake controller.

If the Santa Fe does not already have a 4-Way you will need to add one using # 118415. If it does have a 4-Way you can skip to the next step. I have linked instructions and a video showing a typical installation for you. (If the vehicle came with the factory tow package then you would use 4-Way # 118258. Contact a dealer to run the VIN to determine how the vehicle is equipped.)

With the 4-Way installed you will then need to install a 4 and 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7. This provides the 7-Way and wiring to install the brake controller. I have included some links that explain the ETBC7 installation for you.

And finally you will need a brake controller. The most popular option is the P2, # 90885. This is a reliable controller that is easy to use and easy to set up. It applies the trailer brakes proportionally to the vehicle braking so it is the safest way to stop and reduces wear and tear on both vehicles. I have linked our brake controller FAQ for you.

Since this is a marine application be sure to unplug the electrical connection between vehicle and trailer before backing the trailer into the water.
