Installing Truck Bed Extender #BX4004-02 on 1998 Toyota Tacoma with Factory Tail Gate Cover

I have a 1998 Toyota Tacoma with factory plastic tailgate cover. There is approximately 1.5inch of available flat space for mounting the bracket on each side without altering the cover or interfering with gate closure. Can you give the maximum width dimension for the installation for a bracket?

I reccomend the Curt # C57WR Universal Truck Bed Exender which will fit nearly all full size pickup trucks including Chevrolet, GMC, Ford, Dodge, Ram, and Nissan, with standard 60" wide tail gates. (6.5 foot and longer beds) and provide 36-1/2 inches of additional bed length for storage and hauling. May not work with flare-style tailgates. Compatible with most tonneau covers.

I think your bed may be too narrow as the Tacoma was not a full size back in 1998
