Adding 5-Way With 25 Feet of Wire to Back of Trailer For Lights on Cargo Carrier
Question:
I need a 5 pole flat connector with with at least 25 feet of wire, to go from my hitch to a bike rack, to a cargo carrier basket that I want to put turn signal lights and back up light on. The bike rack and carrier are attached to my hitch behind my camper van and has no wheels so I wouldn't need the blue wire. If the product came with a blue wire, does the blue wire have to be connected? I need at least 25 feet of wire or more because I also have a swing-away extension on the hitch.

So I think we have a solution here for you, but there isn't a vehicle-end 5-way that has 25 feet of wire, so you'll need to splice in additional wire. As for using the blue wire, that is the reverse light wire on the 5-way, so you would need that since you want to utilize a reverse light. Here is what you would need:
- Hopkins Wiring Harness with 5-Pole Flat Trailer Connector - Vehicle End - 5' Long # HM37908
- Primary Wire - 16-Gauge - White - per Foot # DW02359-1
- Deka Heat Shrink Butt Connector - 16-14 Gauge - Nylon Insulation - Blue - Qty 5 # DW05744-5
- Trades Pro Dual Range Heat Gun # ALL836717 (if you don't have one)
The 5-flat is 5 feet long, so you would need to get 20 feet of wire for each of the five wires, and you would connect them with the butt connectors.
