Trailer Electric Brakes Are Not Working When Connected To a 2001 Chevy Silverado

Brakes dont seem to be working on the trailer. This was an after-market addition. Where can we find the fuse?

Unless the display on the brake controller is not illuminated then it is probably not the fuse, however, the fuse in question is a green 30 amp fuse and is located in the position nearest to the positive post to power the brake controller. The fuse you are looking for is located in the yellow box in the picture. The fuse box is located under the hood on the inside of the fender on the drivers side.

If power is reaching the controller, chances are you have a short in your system, refer to the troubleshooting FAQ I have attached.

If you find installing or replacing the fuse does not correct the problem, check the brake controller output pin that is located in the 5:00 position on your 7-way connector. Activate the manual brake switch on the controller then test the brake circuit for voltage using a tester such as Quickee # 3808. Also, inspect the connector itself for damage or corrosion, which can prevent the voltage from reaching the trailer.

If you find that the actual 7-way connector is damaged and you need to replace it, you can use the replacement connector from Pollak, part # PK11893.
