Axle Replacement Solution for Pop Up Trailer to Use for Off-Road Application

Question:

I recently purchased an old pop up camper and I have concerns about the ground clearance. It has stub axles I think that’s the right name with no suspension or springs… just bolted to the frame below. I ultimately want to get bigger tires the ones now are like 15” in total diameter —so I can do some sort of off-road travel to camp. What’s your suggestion for raising the trailer with a new axle setup? Also, I can’t remember what the frame dimensions were, but none of the axle/leaf spring kits lined up exactly right.

You could go with a Timbren Axle Less system like the part # ASR2KHDS03 which will attach directly to your trailer frame and has a 4 inch lift built into it for better ground clearance since this will be an off-road trailer. Since there isn't an axle tube that runs across trailer that helps with ground clearance as well.

Regardless of your frame dimensions this will fit as well.

That sounds great! Do you have a general idea of what size rim/tire that should accommodate? Thank you for the fast response!

@Brandon Timbren says you will be able to use fat off road tires. I think the most limiting factor will be your fender wells. This set up will give you 8-1/2 inches of clearance for your trailer wheels and tires.
