Difference Between 20k & 25k B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch For Ford Super Duty Prep Package

Question:

I have a 2015 Ford F350 dually with puck system. What is the actual difference between the two hitches? I can see the shipping weight is about 10 lbs more on the 25k. And it obviously has 5k higher capacity. But Im wondering what is different that gets you the additional 5k lbs?

That's a good question, and the only actual difference between the two B&W Companion 5th wheel hitches for your Ford Super Duty prep package is they have a different base, rated for 20,000 lbs and 25,000 lbs:

- 20,000 lbs: B&W Companion OEM 5th-Wheel Hitch for Ford Super Duty Prep Package # BWRVK3300

- 25,000 lbs: B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch for Ford Super Duty Prep Package # BWRVK3305

The two hitches actually use the same head unit, but the 25k-rated base of the # BWRVK3305 uses a heavier base that B&W's engineers have rated for an additional 5,000 lb capacity than the base of the 20k # BWRVK3300. If you are towing near 20k, I like having the comfort of the safety margin of the higher-rated Companion, but so long as the hitch is rated for more than the GVWR of your trailer, you're safe.

Whichever capacity you go with, the Companion is a fantastic choice for a 5th wheel hitch and is the premier 5th wheel hitch in the industry due to its overall construction, including its base, along with the 1-inch thick jaw system it utilizes.
