How Many Volts Should A Brake Controller Be Pushing When Set On Full Blast

Can anyone there tell my what the 100 gain voltage is on a 7 pin connector blue wire on a factory install trailer brake controller for a 2020 RAM 1500?

When testing the voltage at the 5 o'clock position on your 7 Way with something like the # PTW2979 and your brake controller turned up to its maximum, you should be seeing 12 volts. However, this is what we have found with the aftermarket brake controllers we carry, like the Tekonsha P3 # 90195 as an example, and this may vary slightly with a factory OEM brake controller. With that being said, trailers in the US are all designed and built to run a 12 volt system, so this should also run true for factory brake controllers.

If you are not getting close to this, it will typically indicate an issue with your brake controller. If this is the case, you will have two real options. You can bring your truck to a Ram dealer to have them diagnose the issue and possible replace or repair it. Or, you can also replace it with an aftermarket controller. The Tekonsha P3 # 90195, again, is a great controller if you decide to go this way and the # 3024-P harness will plug directly into a port under your dash for a quick and easy install.

Odds are your truck, and therein the brake controller, are under warranty still, so I do recommend contacting a Ram dealer before you decide to go with an aftermarket controller to see if they can just replace the factory one first.
