Hitch and Platform Bike Rack for 2010 Toyota RAV4 for Fat Tire Bikes
Question:
I'm looking at either the Curt #13149 or etrailer # e98864 trailer hitches for a 2010 Toyota Rav4 with a rear-mounted spare tire. Would you recommend one in particular or another model? And is there a hitch platform rack that will best accommodate the rear-mounted spare tire? Im looking at platform racks because well be transporting two fat bikes and I want something that would support the bikes by the wheels rather than the frames. Ideally, Id also like to be able to open the back door which swings out when the bike rack is down, but unloaded. Thank you!

Expert Reply:
For a bike rack the Curt hitch # C13149 has better clearance to fit past the rear spare as it sits out an additional 1/2 inch over the etrailer # e98864.
Then for a platform bike rack that fits with fat tires and secures the bikes by the tires we have the RockyMounts MonoRail part # RKY10007-05 that would work great. This can also tilt down for rear door access when bikes aren't loaded.
